10 being easy as pie, and 1 being a unicorn that shits bricks made out of fairy dust.
I would say a 4 to 5ish for my car(thank you depreciation!), depending on the model. What I am really worried about is the maintenance. Oil chances? Not so bad, you can do that yourself(I know crazy, right!)
Air filter? Yup. Although, this is from a Gallardo. You can basically do all the basic stuff by yourself, instead of spending a couple hundred to have some guy do the same exact thing.
No, the scary part comes when it is time for service intervals. Every 15K miles or so. I heard it is $4K for the 15K one, and $2K for the 7500 one.
When it comes time to replace the clutch, thats gonna be 5K, this is where you don't want an E-gear, cause they go through clutches like a mofo. The manual is not only more fun but actually saves the clutch.
And don't get me started about insurance. I think it ranges from 540(some people with diablos) to about 2000 dollars per year(from info I have gathered).
Then what about the tires. . . oh god, those have to cost what, 400, 500 dollars a pop?
EVO did a 3 year test and it cost them about $16K to keep this on the road. I guess that isn't too crazy.
Man, I am scaring myself out of wanting one.
Nevermind, all fixed. Still want one really badly. Anyway, this seems to turned into a rant. So I am ending it now!

My realistic dream car would be getting a 03-04 cobra, best case scenario is a black 10th anniversary coupe. They average from 17 to 25 grand so its not that far out of reach. I'd say 2-3 when the time is right.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:41 |

I'm gonna be optimistic and say 8. It's too early to gauge depreciation on R8s, but in 20 years surely they'll be sub 50k, right? At that point hopefully I will have done well enough in my career to pick one up. I'd forgo a new DD to get an R8 when the time comes
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:41 |

Corvette is my dream car (I know not too special). C5 Z06 is what I'm looking at for the first one, so pretty opbtainable. You did not mention if 10 is obtainable or not obtainable, so I'll assume not obtainable.
That leave me at about a 2. Pretty sure I'll be able to swing one at some point in my life.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:42 |
|
You have anything crazy? something made out of the unobtainable? I mean a Cobra would be crazy but you have to have something you really really want.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:43 |
|
Ford GT, so 1. And getting lower every year.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:43 |
|
10, I could get one on a loan now, but couldn't justify having a weekend only car depreciating and owing finance on.
Murcielago's are nice though, I hardly ever see them any more.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:44 |
|
Hmmm I should have specified which side of the scale is what. Either way, based on Lambos trends you should be able to get an R8 for about 70K soon. I know V10 Gallardos are going for about the 90K mark, so it is only a little bit longer till they drop below the 80K mark!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:46 |
|
Oooooo, I really want one of those. Particullarly the one with 310hp!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:46 |
|
10- on top of that, I would be too afraid to drive it if I could afford it.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:47 |
|
I initially meant 10 as a unicorn, but now I switched it around because everyone assumed 10 is pretty simple(fair enough I guess). Either way, a dream car is a dream car, can't explain it.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:47 |
|
You never know, you could pick up a junker for cheap. And possibly do a restoration.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:49 |
|
Scale has been changed to 1 being the unicorn! Either way, I also have a dream 250 Ferrari, but mine has a 3.3L engine, not a 3L!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:51 |
|
I don't think a GT worth buying will ever be cheap. I could probably live with a replica GT40, although it isn't the same.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:52 |

for a supercar? I wouldn't kick a pagani zonda or a konizze...koni... the car with the top gear wing, out of bed....
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:53 |
|
I would also be happy with a superformance GT40, or a Factory Five Coupe 65!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:55 |
|
Oh you mean this car. . .
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:57 |
|
I could technically go get a decent one by BDR or Superformance etc, by the end of next month... but I would have no monies left. So I would give it a 9/10. One day it will be mine :)
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:58 |

A Ferrari 458 italia. I love that car with all my heart! I would say it's probobly somewhere in the range of 5-4. On a more realistic side, An Aston Martin V8 Vantage which would be about an 8.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 00:59 |
|
And what a day it will be!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:00 |

I know a guy with an Tessarossa. He cut a hatch in the firewall so he wouldn't have to drop the whole engine while changing spark plugs or doing anything to the front-end of the engine. Pretty sweet. Also, learn how to do the internals work yourself. Not only will you then be badass, but I bet you 90% of the cost is labor. It's probably just a checkup and replacing tensioners, but then again I don't really know my exotics maintenance very well.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:00 |
|
yes, that one
fun fact, my car (and the terminator) have the same engine as a CC8S and CCR, the engine in those are just extensively modified compared to what I have though lol
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:02 |
|
If that's what it takes to own one I shall! It isn't the price that worries me, but the cost of maintenance. Luckily some people have shown how to do this yourself on the internet, and some dude wrote a book on it!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:02 |

The ford GT is like one of the only supercars I know of that had the resale increase after it left the lot. The ford GT doesn't know the meaning of "resale depreciation"
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:05 |
|
I heard Koenigsegg made their own engine(1000+ hp applications) because they thought the Ford V8 wouldn't be able to handle it. Also since they have the same engine, that does mean that you can mod your car to have 655, or even 800hp!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:07 |
|
It is the only one I know of. I was expecting them to be $70k by now.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:08 |

I'd have to say my dream car is 8-9 in term of attainability. I'd really love a clean NSX, but they are getting harder and harder to find. It will probably be my next major (as in not a beater) car purchase.
Stretch goal, McLaren F1.... way way less than a 1.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:08 |

Realistic : 9
Viper GTS, about $35k for an okay one
Pseudo Realistic : 5
Aston Martin DB9
(would settle for a nice V8 Vantage; $70ish?)
Outlandish : 2
McLaren P1
*This is my actual Dream Car
Downright Impossible : 0
Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

You could find some really old 1991 examples for 19K. Don't know what kind of shape they were in though.
You could always own a 850CSi. I mean it has the S70 V12. . .
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:14 |
|
Yup. It's all good.
I got lucky, my preferences went towards an easily attainable vehicle. I can understand the agony of those like $kay who can't get a supercar that they so desire. Or yourself on the LP640.
I could have just as easily grown up for whatever reason really really really dreaming about some other completely unobtainable vehicle.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:15 |
|
I can tell you, you will be very happy with a V8 Vantage. Those things sound like GOD! I didn't know the Europeans could make something so gargly sounding(did Ford have anything to do with the engine?)
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:22 |
|
I am not sure. I would guess that Aston owners would get mad if they had the engine out of a Mustang, so I would bet not...
I do know they make their own engines now, and are looking for a switch to Mercedes engines.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:23 |
|
My car isn't nearly as unobtainable as $kay's choice. See early model Murcielago's are going for 120K right now. In a few years time, they have to be 100K. That is a fracking great deal! Ford GTs just keep climbing up in price.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:27 |
|
instead they are like 200,000 +
One of the local dealer chains to me, the owner used to keep these two tucked away in the back of the chevy/cadillac (formerly mercury/lincoln) showroom. I don't know where they are now though
The yellow/black car was never driven. It was put in and parked. The other car, was a white and blue stripe which had about 300 miles on it at the time.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:28 |

I can't wait for the MB partnership, I really love their engines. Always weapons grade stuff.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:28 |
|
Yeah, I actually almost bought one instead of the FR-S (an NSX), but decided against it due to the extensive and still growing FR-S aftermarket.
The 850CSi is a little too fat for me (4000lbs!!), even though it does share the same heart as the F1. If I had to choose a GT car it would be a Maserati rather than a BMW.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:30 |
|
Never been a big fan of the 8 series either, plus the engine doesn't sound nearly as good as it does in the F1, not even close. So I would also choose something like a Maserati. The ones I hear at my school sound pretty god damn amazing.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:33 |
|
Very true. The GT is amazingly crazy in its value rising. I can't imagine what it will be 10 years from now... Definitely a car that will, in the future, be worth a load I'm sure.
Murcielago, while an awesome and expensive car, will likely continue to depreciate as you said. I wish you the best of luck to get one though, as I do with my friend and his viper fantasies.
I truly wish everyone could have their dream car.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:34 |
|
Yeah, the ones I've heard have definitely impressed me. Honestly though, I think in terms of sheer unexpected awesomeness, the best sounding car that Fiat S.p.A. makes right now is the Abarth (blasphemy I know). But such noises coming from that tiny car should not be allowed, ever.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:38 |
|
Well, is nothing exotic but I really really really want one of these, 2010 saveiro; I just love how it looks. Is not a 8-10 thought, this being Ecuador is around 20k used and for a young guy like me a second car is a luxury (again, Ecuador). I'd say a 6-7 in a couple years.
My dream car is the NSX, but thats like a -10 to me.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:40 |

A good condition GT is about a quarter million, and a low mile Heritage Edition (Gulf Livery) is twice that.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:40 |
|
That almost sounds like a V8 on start up. . . almost. It does make some crazy noises though. Might be the best sounding 4 cylinder of the last 10 years. Besides the Jaguar CX75, that sounds like a banshee!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:43 |
|
And definitely one of the best sounding production 4 cylinders, the thing can make stock Mustang GTs sound wimpy.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:47 |
|
I can see the appeal. It looks strangely attractive.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:49 |
|
I think 310hp is a bit overkill for me :P
I'd be happy with the 200hp model as a spirited track car that isn't going to kill me every chance it gets.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:54 |
|
By Clarkson logic, that is the exact reason you should get it. . . then complain about the gas mileage.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 02:09 |

I guess you're right, there's a custom Clubman I see regularly that's RB25DET powered, and I've seen it brake traction attempting very simple lane maneuvers.

i have TWO car bucket lists (5 cars each) - one is the "realistic" under $50k bucket list that includes faves like a Datsun Roadster (next one I'm aiming for), Z3 M Coupe, Lotus Elise and is topped off at the high-end of the list with the zany Morgan 3-wheeler.
The other is the "fantasy" bucket list with such lust-worthy toys like the Morgan Aero Coupe, 458 Italia, and a vintage showdown between the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona and Lamborghini Miura.

leaving this here

The vast majority of my dream cars are ludicrously affordable. All except the Alfa 2600 Zagato and an E-Type are less than £30,000. Around half are less than £10,000, and many are around £4000.
It's really rather dangerous. I'm slightly thankful that a lot of the cars I want are hard to find nowadays, especially in RHD.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 06:06 |

2- Because even if I do become filthy rich. No sale in the US.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 07:31 |

I'm hoping they follow an NSX like trend, where in 20 years or so there will be enough people that have really driven them to drive the prices to the 30-40k range, where they will sit for a while and then hopefully go back up. If I can snatch one at the low, that would be great.
If not, then a C7 Corvette would do.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 07:34 |

How many of those have Ferrari pumped out? It feels like a lot, so maybe the value will go down drastically so in 30 or 40 years they won't be too out of reach.

8 - I badly want an Atom for street use. Doable in the $40k range, but I'm too cheap to spend them money right now. I have a couple of fun cars around the house already and I spend my fun money on travel.
10 - Back up plan. Exocet. DIY Atom based off a Miata. Fun bit is I would be able to do some wrenching on it myself.
0 - They don't let people like me play with national treasures. Auto Union Streamliner

![]() 09/26/2013 at 08:17 |

I have about 5 dream cars...and hopefully someday I'll be able to own all of them.
NSX, in black or blue. Probably a 5, as they aren't expensive but are getting more and more rare.
1989 Testarossa or 512TR. Probably a 6 to buy, but the maintenance...not sure.
Aston Martin DB9. I'd give it a 3; could happen, but not for a long time.
Audi R8 V10. 2, probably.
Almost any Porsche 911, including the slantnose. Feasibility is anywhere from 8 for an older unrestored one to a 1 for a fully specc'd GT3 or GT2.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 08:19 |
|
Whoa, it's like a new and interesting take on the El Camino! I love it.
Also, doesn't Ford or GM Australia make something like that, still? SportUte or something like that?
09/26/2013 at 08:30 |
|
This is going to be long list and I'm probably forgetting some cars.
Nissan Sunny GTI-R 9, possible dream daily driver.
Porsche 930 Turbo 6-5, Turbos aren't cheap.
Dodge Aspen Super Coupe 8, importing fees and taxes would probably be as much as the car itself.
'69 Dodge Coronet R/T 7
Ferrari 512BB(i) 3
Lamborghini Countach LP 500s 2, I'm not sure though would I even want to own this after hearing opinions from people who have driven it.
'70-71 Plymouth Duster 8, same thing with taxes as with the Aspen.
Plus over 40 project cars cooking up in my head ranging from 1 to 10.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 08:33 |
|
I'll give my choice a solid 1.5 on your scale.
My want is based things like this , this and this .
I'm a man of simple tastes.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 08:40 |
|
>1.
I'm probably never getting a McLaren F1. Also, a TVR Sagaris is at this level until 2019, when they are fully legal in Canada.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 08:52 |
|
I have three, as a bunch I would say it is about a 10. But individually:
Jeep Cherokee, Lifted—-12. I already have it!!
1963 Ford Country squire wagon, 427ci, Sorted suspension . —— 10
I can pick one up for less than 5 grand , and I want it to be a project anyways.
1973 Dark Blue Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. —-9 These usually require a lot of body work, but a well sorted one can be had for less than $30k.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 14:50 |

I also want a Lancia, a Delta S4. So that probably isn't going to happen :'(

![]() 09/26/2013 at 14:54 |

Just remember, all the maintenance you can do yourself. You will probably have to learn, and just pay for parts. The service intervals are usually to check if everything is okay, if you learn to do this yourself, you can afford your dream car and afford to keep it as well!
![]() 09/26/2013 at 14:55 |

I would settle for a C-type, but those aren't for sale are they.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 14:58 |

How much are 512BBs going for? I know you can get a Testarossa for 70K, so they can't be too expenive. Also the 930 is a very reliable car, if anything you can go for a SC or something.
09/26/2013 at 15:20 |

The ones on Mobile.de are between 108,000 and 165,000 € (about $146,000-223,000).

It'll still have to wait a while; school debts and kids come first. I already drive two cars I love, and next year have convinced the wife to let me get a project car...so I'm set for now.

Very true. They're fairly astronomical here in the UK.
To be honest, an S3 2+2 would be perfect for what I want to do. Basically follow this video and make a SWB V12 roadster.
Then I'd paint it Ecurie Ecosse blue like this D-Type...
...but with a silver racing stripe across the front like this TR250:

Around here there was a chevy, well not really a chevy but a chevy badged opel, the chevrolet corsa,
